Objective: To investigate the levels of interleukin-17(IL-17) in gingival crevicular fluid(GCF) samples from teeth with zirconia ceramic crowns and natural teeth and explore the correlation between the levels of IL-17 and periodontal clinical indices and CD4+ T cell count in HIV+ patients. Methods: The GCF samples were collected using paper strips in21 teeth with zirconia ceramic crowns and 21 natural teeth controls from 16 HIV+ patients. After sampling, the periodontal indices were recorded. The CD4+ T cells from blood sample were counted by flow cytometry. The levels of IL-17 in GCF samples were detected by ELISA assay. The relationship between them was analyzed. Results: The concentration of IL-17 in crown group was slightly higher than that in the control group total(P〈0.05), but the total amount of IL-17 and periodontal indices have no significant difference compared with control group(P〉0.05). The periodontal indices and the levels of GCF IL-17 in two groups were positively correlated with CD4^+ T cell count(P〈0.05). Conclusion: Zirconia ceramic crown restoration does not increase the risk of periodontal destruction in HIV+ patients, and the periodontal condition of natural teeth and zirconia crown restoration teeth are correlated with CD4^+ T cell count and systemic immune status.
