1912-1949年曼彻斯特大学中国留学生与跨文化交流探析

A Cross-Cultural Study on the Chinese Overseas Students in the Victoria University of Manchester from 1912 to 1949

根据曼彻斯特维多利亚大学档案与记录中心及Joule图书馆搜集的第一手资料,发现:1912-1949年间,英国曼大的中国留学生总数过百人。理工科学生获得各类学位的比例高达66%,他们在工程、纺织、化学、数学、物理等各领域都取得了优秀的成绩;国内名校的科研和教育背景是其取得成就的重要基础。毕业后,留学生们或回国投身教学科研工作,或赴美有关高校继续深入研究。曼大留英生们在许多专业领域获得了很大的成就,为中国的科技进步和社会发展作出了重要贡献。

This study has done a detailed analysis on the Chinese overseas students studying in the Victoria University of Manchester from 1912 to 1949 and has thus explored the academic study, achievements in science and technology as well as the social contribution of the Chinese overseas students studying in the UK in the Republican Period. During 1912 to 1949, over one hundred Chinese overseas students studied in the Victoria University of Manchester, among whom, 66% of the students majoring in science and technology have got their degrees at various levels. Their remarkable academic achievements in engineering, textile industry, chemistry, mathematics and physics can be credited to good research training and education they received in prestigious Chinese universities. After graduation, in response to the Republican government＇s call to construct the country, they either went back to the homeland to devote themselves to teaching and research or went to the US to pursue further academic research in American universities. They have made a significant contribution to the advancement of China＇s science and technology as well as social development.
