On the Stories of “White Lotus Sect” in Liao Zhai——In the Perspective of Religion

白莲教在产生发展的数百年间不断变化,并被冠以"邪教"的称呼,不容于天地。《聊斋志异》中多篇作品涉及到"白莲教",主要描述"白莲盗首"徐鸿儒起义及各教徒的故事。徐鸿儒起义在官方档案、民间宗教典籍多有记载。本文以《聊斋志异》中白莲教故事作为研究范本,通过史料和民间宗教研究的相互印证,揭示徐鸿儒起义、闻香教与白莲教的关系。

The white lotus sect has developed continually during several hundred years, and been called the ＂heresy＂. There are many articles about the ＂white lotus sect＂ in Liao Zhai, describing the story of Xu Hongru, who is the ＂chief＂ of the white lotus sect. The uprising of Xu can be found in official records and religious ancient books. This paper studies the stories of the white lotus sect in Liao Zhai and confirms the historical data and other religious resources, revealing the relationship between the uprising of Xu, the Wenxiang sect and the white lotus sect.
