Objective To explore the expression levels of serum Th1/ Th2 cytokines in cervical cancer patients of different clinical stages and the relationship between serum Th1/Th2 cytokines .Methods Totally 72 cervical cancer patients at different clinical stages based on FIGO classification were selected as case group and another 30 healthy women were chosen as control group. Serum Thl cytokines (IFN- γ, IL- 2) and Th2 cytokines (IL- 4, IL- 6) were determined by ELISA, and the ratio of Th1/Th2 was calculated. Results The levels of serum IFN-γ, IL-2, IL-4 and IL-6 in patients of case group were significandy higher than that of control group, whereas the ratio of IFN-γ/IL-4, IFN-γ/IL-6, IL-2/IL-4 and IL-2/IL-6 in patients of case group were significantly lower than that of control group (P〈0.05). With the deterioration of the cervical cancer, the levels of serum Thl cytokines and Th2 cytokines showed a rising trend significantly, while the ratio of Th1/Th2 cytokines significantly decreased (P〈0.05). In case group, the levels of serum IFN-γ were significantly positive correlated with IL-4 and IL-6 (r=0.533 , 0.502, respectively), and the levels of serum IL-2 were significantly positive correlated with IL-4 and IL- 6 (r=0.606 , 0.574 respectively, P〈0.05). Conclusions The levels of serum Th2 eytokines in cervical cancer patients elevated significantly. The dynamic balance of serum Th1/Th2 cytokines was disturbed resulting in interaction of Th1 and Th2 cytokines
