Gender Preference:What Do We Know and What Do We Still Need to Know?

性别偏好是影响人口性别比、家庭及社会人口结构和社会稳定的重要因素。近年来,关于性别偏好问题的研究越来越受到更广泛的重视。本文沿着一系列问题的逻辑链条,通过文献综述的方式重点回答以下问题,即何为性别偏好?性别偏好只是文化观念问题吗?经济发展是否必然弱化性别偏好?性别偏好的根源何在?家庭资源配置上是否存在性别偏好?在此基础上指出尚未解决的问题与未来的研究方向。

Gender preference is an important factor affecting sex ratio at birth, population structure of family and society, as well as social stability. In recent years, research on gender preference has drawn more and more attention. In this paper we analyze a series of issues by exploring the existing literature and try to provide answers to the following questions ： What is gender preference？ Is gender preference only a matter of cultural values？ Will economic development inevitably weaken gender preference？ What are the causes of gender preference？ Does gender preference exist in intra-household resource allocation？ Finally,we discuss some unresolved problems and research efforts needed in the future.
