沈从文先生成功塑造了许多女性形象,有纯洁美丽得湘西少女,有勇敢坚强的劳动妇女和纯朴自然的妓女。这些女性虽然年龄、职业等并不相同,但她们都善良、纯朴、自然,和现代城市"文明人"相比较,她们如"清水出芙蓉,天然去雕饰"。

Shen Congwen successfully created many female images, either pure and beautiful girls of West of Hunan, either are brave and strong working woman, or even humble and natural prostitutes. Though they are different in terms of their age and occupation, they are all kind-hearted, simple, and natural. Compared with those civilized counterparts living modern city, these women are as clear as water lotus, and as natural as the newly-born.
