The narration of in Goncharov's novels is deeply influenced by Pushkin's The Tales of the Late Ivan Petrovich Belkin. The objectification in the contracted narration, the magic effect of reminiscence and the flexible use of free indirect speech in A Common Story directly show Goncharov's succession and transcendence to Pushkin's narrative techniques. The narration of Goncharov's novels demonstrates some features of the art trend in the 20' century, which not only facilitates the formation of the objectivity of his narrative style, but also lays some foundation for the prosperity of the Russian 19 th century realistic novels and 20 th century modern literature.
