As one of the representative works of the Russian writer Leo Tolstoy＇s early time creation, The Cossacks is a landmark in his writing career. The novella completes its construction and description of the two big social and cultural spaces of Moscow and Caucasus by adopting Olenin＇s—the protagonist of The Cossacks—boredom of high society life and his escape from Moscow to Caucasus as its narrative path. At the same time, the novella takes spatial experience as an inner form of existential experience to reflect the path of Tolstoy＇s ideological evolution and the spiritual exploration, as well as to highlight its profound philosophical implication and unique aesthetic connotation.
