The Category,Structure and Textual Function of Topic Chains in Chinese Discourse

话题链是汉语篇章常见的组织形式,体现为一种线性结构特征,主要表现为将较小单位有效组织起来连成篇章。要深入研究话题链篇章功能,必须关注其结构性特征与功能。本文重审了话题链的定义和性质,在区分其与零回指差异的基础上,从话题链的内部关系与外部关联着手研究话题链结构性功能。从话题对评述的管辖及评述部分的组合关系来探索话题链的内部关系;从话题链与话题链关系、话题链与非话题链关系来探索话题链的外部关联。

As a common discourse organizational device in Chinese, the topic chain has been previously studied as anaphora. The previous studies tend to only focus on manifestation of the topic, and pay little attention to the structural characteristics of topic chains. By contrast, this study explores the structural characteristics and functions topic chains from its interior and exterior connections. The structural characteristics of topic chains are greatly helpful to probe into the textual functions and textual mechanism of topic chains in Chinese. After re-examining the definition and characteristics of topic chains, this study penetrates its interior connections from three aspects： the performance of topic, the domination of topic to comments, and the integration of comment parts. The connections between topic chains and non-topic chains are discussed.
