From the perspective of second language acquisition, error correction creates a moment for learning to occur. Itseffectiveness does not lie in short-term improvement of grammatical accuracy but in learning effect on language development, therefore it should follow the language development-oriented principle with an aim of long-term effect. The application ofcomputer-based writing correction to college English writing instruction shows that error prompting, corpus-supported learningplatform and circular process of multiple drafts and corrections, when incorporated into teacher instruction, promotes attention to,acceptability and awareness of error correction, conversion of explicit knowledge, hence the learning effect on English writing.
