New Opinion on the Relationship between Li Bai and Immortal Taoism

李白与神仙道教的关系,前人所论虽多,但对其求仙学道与整个生涯的关系及阶段性变化、与当代道教及古老神仙文化传统的关系,仍缺乏系统深入的研究。李白早年以峨眉修道之士身份来到安陆,进而以此身份为玄宗所召,后仍以此身份放还,数游东南,开始漫长的"海上求仙"之路。其生平追忆,多次自述由求仙转为入世。李白的神仙道教信仰深受古老蓬莱神话影响,彰显了多种精神因素的综合作用,其中最主要的仍是追求个体精神的绝对自由。

A lot of research work in the relationship between Li Bai and Immortal Taoism has been carriedout in these years. However, systemic and intensive studies are still lacking of the relation betweenImmortal Taoism and his whole life, and the phased change in the former. As a Taoism learner fromEmei Mountain, Li Bai came to Anlu in his early life, then was invited to Chang-an city and finallycommanded to leave there by Emperor Xuanzong of Tang dynasty. Several travels in the coastal areaof East China led to Li Bai's long road of seeking the immortal. He narratived the change in retro-spect from seeking the immortal to devoting to political activity several times. Deeply influenced bytales about Penglai Mountain, Li Bai's belief in Immortal Taoism is the comprehensive result of multi-ple psychic factors, among which the most important is his pursuit of absolute individual freedom.
