The“Ugly Board Ditch”Can Not Be Crossed?——The Interpretation of Lessing's on the Proof of the Spirit and of Power

In his article＂on the Proof of the Spirit and of Power＂, Lessing brought up the famous image of a＂Ugly Board Ditch＂which delimits the historical truth and the truth of reason. By reconstructing Lessing＇s argument and analyzing several important concepts within it, with reflection on famous responses from Kierkegaard, Karl Barth and Michalson, we can detect Lessing＇s opinion on a rather crucial religious and philosophical problem.
