In January- June 2013, Nanjing Municipal Institute of Archaeology conducted an excavation on the two large brick-chambered tombs dating to the Southern Dynasties at Shizichong, Qixia, Nanjing. The two tombs are juxtaposed and about 400 meters away from the carved stone. Both of them were discovered with neatly assembled pictorial bricks, rare to see in China. The Seven Sages of the Bamboo Grove painted on the western wall of No. 1 tomb is particularly a rare example of its kind. Each tomb was unearthed with a chronological brick, which provides important information for identifying the tomb owner and the burial time.
