The fifth generation directors have created a new era of Chinese movies. They practiced movie making under the guidance of new concepts, and have become outstanding in the image fostering. The majority of their successful movies come largely from literary works and their dependence and favor of literary works has, to a large extent, resembled the interaction between literature and movies. The fifth generation directors have international horizon and have come close to the adaptation viewpoint of some western artists who regard literary works as pre - processing materials. The fifth generation directors have persisted in their own under- standing of movie nature and their own peculiar thinking in the process of adapting literary works into movies, leaving an obvious trace of their own personality in the movies, which makes the literary works truly personal- ized movie products.
