"温柔敦厚"是金元文士诗歌创作的理论基础和审美追求。主要由情性说和尊古说组成。情性说为温柔敦厚的理论基础,尊古说为温柔敦厚追求的目标。这个理论是通过对经学有选择地吸收和演绎,完成了诗歌从政治的道德的标准到审美标准的转化而形成;是以诗为专门之学的产物;促进了诗歌和诗人的独立性;追求诗歌优美、安闲、高逸的意境。

Gentleness and sincerity are the theoretical base and esthetic pursuit of poetry writing of Jin - Yuan literati, consisting of theories of passion and ancient scholar - worship. The theory of pas- sion is the theoretic base of gentleness and sincerity, and ancient scholar - worship is the goal of gen- tleness and sincerity. It is the product of viewing poetry as a specialized field. It promotes the poets＇ independence, and pursues the elegant ,easy and ingenious poetic style.
