Euphemism is a linguistic and social phenomenon. It is closely related to taboos as well as an effica- cious strategy to interact with others. In view of this, it is much necessary to study English euphemism from the perspective of cooperative principle and explore its main social functions to avoid taboo, unpleasantness, and show politeness.
