《珍妮姑娘》是美国经典作家德莱塞的第二部小说,作品塑造了一位美丽无私但命运可悲的社会下层女性形象。本文拟从小说中珍妮这一女性形象切入,在女性主义批评的视角之下,运用维多利亚式"真女性"意识形态分析珍妮的身份建构努力及其文化含义,揭示珍妮身份建构迷梦的虚幻性及由此反映出的美国传统文化价值观念的式微。

As the second novel of American novelist Theodore Dreiser, Jennie Gerhardt narrates the story of a beautiful and self-less working girl, Jennie Gerhardt, whose life was tragic and deplorable.This article focuses on Jennie’ s character and analyzes Jennie’ s identity-building in the light of Victorian ideology of “True Womanhood,” in hope of disclosing the illusory nature of Jennie’ s search for identity as well as the declination of American traditional cultural values.
