汤山东南小村西岗头曾有35人被日军杀害，一直没有文字记录，关键是没有记录敌人罪行的意识，觉得没有用。随着岁月的流逝，一份份鲜活的记忆无情流失。村民自费筹建的“侵华日军南京大屠杀西岗头遇难同胞纪念碑”是该村民间记忆的集中体现，现在已经成为国家记忆的一部分。
