Hepatogenic factor betatrophin can cause islet β cells proliferation specifically.Animal studies have confirmed that proliferative β cells induced by betatrophin have normal function.Studies in human also found that betatrophin level is elevated in patients with diabetes and is associated with insulin resistance.It may be a compensatory response,but the specific mechanism is unclear.Therefore,further research of the relationship between betatrophin and diabetes may provide hope for the regeneration therapy of diabetes.
