Bible on Screen——A General Review

《圣经》作为西方世界上最畅销的书籍,以其宗教题材﹑丰富的内容和庞大的受众在影视改编素材排行榜上一直名列前茅。自1916年格里菲斯的《党同伐异》问世以来,已有数百部改编自《圣经》的影视作品诞生。它们中有的只是将文字转换成了影像,基本忠实地再现了圣经故事;有的则选取某一个或者几个故事作为影视改编的框架,在情节和人物设置上做了较多的取舍和改动;还有一些则以《圣经》为原型,故事背景﹑情节和人物都完全与原著无关。换句话来说,根据《圣经》在这些影视改编作品当中不同的呈现方式,可以将它们划分为不同的改编类型,从而为深入研究《圣经》的影视改编奠定基石。

Bible has always been one of the most frequently adapted literary works due to its religious subject, abundant content and enormous readership. The film industry has witnessed the birth of hundreds of biblical screen adaptations since the release of D.W. Griffith＇s Intolerance in 1916. Some of those adaptations faithfully reproduced biblical stories by transforming words into images; some had made major modifications on plot and character; some merely adopted certain archetypes contained in the Bible and bare resemblance with it neither on setting and plot nor character. In other words, these adaptations can be classified into different categories according to the way in which Bible is presented on the screen.
