摘要
安吉拉·卡特在她的小说《霍夫曼博士的魔鬼欲望机器》中加入诸多东方元素,尤其是频频引用中国先秦典故,营造出一个具有强烈东方色彩的魔幻世界,呈现了一场颠覆西方理性的狂欢。狂欢落幕,再次登场的并非"超凡大帝",而是重登王位的西方理性。东方又一次成了西方自我发现、自我界定的工具,东方的狂欢成就了西方的救赎。
In Angela Carter's The Infernal Desire Machines of Doctor Hoffman, the frequent use of Chinese pre-Qin classics renders the book a heavy atmosphere of magical East tand presents a carnival which subverts the Western reason. However, as the carnival comes to an end, the Western reason is found to be re-installed onto its throne. Again, the East becomes a tool of self-discovery and self-definition for the West.
