This paper analyzes Benjamin' s and Derrida' s deconstructive translation theories in terms of translatability, translation criteria, task of the translator and translation techniques and summarizes their connections and differences. Based on their acknowledgement of the dual attributes of translatability and untranslatability, the biggest difference is the source of untranslatability. Benjamin perceives the pursuit of pure language as the goal of translation, while Derrida puts forward "relevant" translation standard, taking feedback of the evaluator into consideration. "Task" and "Debt" represent their different understandings of the responsibility of the translator. Compared with Benjamin' s interlinear translation, Derr- ida' s Economy Principle puts more emphasis on the translator' s adaptation ability. In summary, Derrida inherits and de- velops Benjamin' s theory, making it more instructive in translation practice.
