In 2009 to 2011, the Archaeological Team of the Terracotta Army Pits of Emperor Qin Shihuang's Mausoleum Site Museum conducted partial excavation to the Terracotta Army Pit No. 1. The excavation locale was in the middle slightly to the north of the Pit No. 1 and included two trenches and three partitioning walls, covering 200 sq m in total. Pit No. 1 was a subterranean earth-and-timber structure formed of earthen structures and wooden pillars and beams, and the grounds of the two trenches were all paved with bricks. From the two trenches, in total 106 terracotta figures were recovered, 96 figure feet and pedestals were fetched and large amounts of weapons and chariot and horse fittings were unearthed. The terminus post quem of the construction was 228 BC and the terminus ante quem was 209 BC. This excavation provided clues for the destruction of the Terracotta Army Pits of Emperor Qin Shihuang's Mausoleum and new materials for the researches on relevant issues.
