SEL includes five key competences, i.e. self-awareness, social awareness, responsible decision making, self-management, and relationship management. The core goal of SEL is to promote social and emotional competences (SEC). The development of SEC contributes to positive learning attitude, and academic achievement; preventing problem behavior, promoting mental health; and improving the morality and citizenship of students. In the development process of basic education in China, we should learn from SEL research, pay more attention to the evidence-based practice orientation, and improve the scientific nature and effectiveness of education practice; we should pay more attention to the integration of social-emotional education and discipline teaching, and strengthen the integration and coordination of a variety of education initiatives; we should pay more attention to the cooperation and integration of a variety of social environment factors influencing students" development, and make them play a comprehensive effect.
