From document service to culture construction: library is a profession as well as a cause

图书馆定位的职业取向和事业取向,分别对应于文献服务和文化建构,体现了图书馆存在的两种状态和二重境界,决定了图书馆对自身应有价值和内在动力的不同判断与要求,也影响到图书馆学研究的目标指向和方法系统的确立与选择。职业定位以文献服务为聚焦,充斥着功利竞逐。以文化为对象、以人为目标的图书馆既是一种职业,更是一种事业,责任重于事功应成为图书馆的精神勖勉。

The orientation of library cause refers to culture construction while the direction of profession of library corresponds to document service which embodies dual morphologies and acmes of library, determines the different judgments and requirements of library in its due value and inner dynamics and influences the aim positioning of the research on library science, the choice and determination of the systematic systems adopted by library. The direction of profession focusing on information service fills up severe competitions, but taking culture as the objective, and adhering to the people-oriented obligation can be regarded as a spiritual encouragement to the librarians, that is, library is nothing but a lofty cause.
