Borodin＇s Piano Quintet No.1 in c minor is one of the earliest piano quintets in the romantic period. The quintet displays a mixture of styles and influences. European form and Russian style interlock to generate a work that is marvelously constructed and beautifully written. This paper analyzes and illustrates the duality between East and West that appears in this work.
