Yan Fu's habitus of integrating Chinese and western ideology originated in his acquisition of Confucianism and modern sciences, advanced by what he saw and experienced during his studying abroad,prompted by his dejections and frustrations in his career, aroused out of his contemplation and endeavors to climbing up his social ladder and finally developed by his attuning to his life goals, all of which have been occurred in the field he had been exposed. Propelled by his habitus, Yan Fu exerted himself to introduce the western social sciences to his countrymen in the hope of making his country strong and his people rich.Biourdieu's concept of habitus can explicate what he pursued in his lifetime and account the rationale of his pursuance.
