Academician Guodong Cheng, the Chief-Editor of Sciences in Cold and Arid Regions, was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award of International Permafrost Association （IPA） in Evora, Portugal on 19 June 2014. The IPA awarded Professor Cheng to recognize his outstanding contributions in the field of frozen soil science and engineering research during the past one-half century.
