Quality Matters

棉花质量问题可谓我国棉花产业的陈年旧疾。为了支持快速发展的纺织工业,我国长期致力于提高棉花产量,改革开放以来,棉花总产、单产均增长了两倍多。然而随着市场需求的变化,提升质量逐渐成为行业实现可持续健康发展的出路。

China-grown cotton's quality issue has been lingering for years. For a long period China makes efforts to raise cotton's production output in order to support the fast-growing textile industry. Since China's reform and opening-up began, the total production and yield per unit area of cotton have both doubled. However, as the market demand changes, raising quality becomes a solution for the healthy, sustainable development of the industry. 'On one hand, the sale of cotton has met difficulties; on the other hand, high quality cotton that satisfies textile industry's requirements is still in shortage,' said Dai Gongxing, Chairman of China Cotton Association. In such dilemma, this round of national reserve cotton sales would not attract many textile companies. It is natural that the industry holds a wait and see attitude.
