技术不是中性的,而是表征了性别统治的行为意志。女性是抽象的,也是历史的。技术与性别的关系成为女性主义和技术哲学研究领域的新课题,这不仅仅是学术上的延伸与交叉,而更是源于当代女性问题和技术问题的解析都离不开对方的介入。随着技术的现代化和女性受教育程度的提高,女性进入社会公共领域的优势不仅不低于男性,而且在除了工程技术范围之外的广泛领域呈现出具有统治意义的鲜明特征。在技术领域的"孤岛"上,男性因为自身体力而不是智力的优势,保持一定的主导地位,但统治范围和程度也不断下降。技术改变了男性,也改变了女性。女性的本质随着技术的革命而展开,男权社会与女权社会之争本身就是当代社会的女性本质特征的一部分。
