《道德经》“德”字英译的译者主体性——以林语堂、阿瑟·韦利译本为例

Translator's subjectivity on the translation of "De" in Dao De Jing——based on the versions of Lin Yutang and Arthur Waley

"德"作为《道德经》主旨之一,其重要性已经引起业界关注,对其英译研究仅集中于"德"字英译的得失、字词甄选上,对"德"字英译之源缺乏系统的理论研究。首先从林语堂和阿瑟·韦利译本对"德"字内涵的差异性进行梳理,并进一步从译者的主体性角度——译者的思想信仰、所处的历史背景、翻译目的、翻译策略等方面分析出现差异性的原因。

＂De＂,as the keynote of Dao De Jing,has attracted great attention.However,the study relating to the word only focused on gain and loss of translation or selection of specific word,which lacks of systemic and theoretic research.Firstly,the diversities of ＂De＂ s meanings in the versions of Lin Yutang and Arthur Waley is reviewed and generalized in the paper and the reason for diversities from different angels are analyzed in terms of translators’ religious belief,historic background,the purposes of translation and strategies used in their versions.
