The technique characteristics of powder metallurgy and the application condition of iron-dust in steel plants are summarized. The application of directly reduced iron in steelmaking, manufacture process of reduced iron powder and atomized iron powder in steel enterprises are represented respectively. The powder metallurgy products exploited in JFE and Kobe steel companies and their application fields, and the progress of powder metallurgy technology in China WISCO, LISCO are particularized. The influence factors of iron-based powder metallurgy industry development is analyzed. The fast increase of the demand for varieties and amount of iron-base powder metallurgy parts is promoted due to the development of auto industry and advancement of performance requirement for high-speed steel in cutting tool industry . It＇ s pointed out that in the current plight for steel enterprises, iron-base powder metallurgy technology should be developed fast to find new profit growth points for enterprise and to achieve comprehensive utilization of resource.
