南通板鹞风筝具有独特的地方民俗特色,以其精湛的制作工艺、简洁古朴的造型、鲜明生动的色彩、以及独特的哨口等艺术特点而闻名。郭承毅作为南通板鹞国家级非物质文化遗产的代表性传承人,在其长达近半个世纪的实践、研究中,取得了巨大的艺术成就。他的作品处处精工细作,制作工艺妙乎其技;鹞面与哨口彩绘兼工带写且精于设色;所表现的内容匠心独运、意蕴其中,包含了吉祥文化、教化理念和与时俱进的时代精神;同时,他能兼容并蓄,将剪纸艺术、蓝印花布、戏曲脸谱等经典民间工艺融汇其中,且具创新,为推动南通板鹞风筝的发展发挥了十分重要的作用。

Whistle kites in Nantong are of distinctive local and folk features, delicate crafts, plain and unsophisticated styles, vivid colors and unique whistles. As a most famous inheritor and disseminator of the national intangible cultural heritage, whistle kites, Guo Cheng-yi has made great achievements in his practice and researches in the past 50 years. His handicrafts are of delicate work and magnificent technique, the surface of kites and the whistles are painted with del- icate colors and presents profound connotations, and he also innovates the making of whistle kites by combining kite- making with kirigami, indigo cloth art, and Peking opera making-ups. Therefore, he has made great contributions to the promotion of national culture in whistle kites.
