Style and Genre in Modern Chinese Literary Criticism

体裁与文类概念有联系也有区别。体裁偏重于写作形式,文类兼顾了作品的情感倾向。体裁张扬了普遍的写作范型意识,文类注意到了不同文学传统的特殊性。当文学类型意识发生改变时,不只是相关文学类型本身发生了调整,组成这些文学类型的系统关系也进行了调整。在研究中国现代文学作品的独特性质及其形式构成方面,文类概念比之其他概念都更加贴近作品实际。

Style and genre are related to but different from each other. Style is more concerned about form, whereas genre also takes into account the emotional aspects of creative writing. Style reveals the universal awareness of writing norms, while genre directs attention to the peculiarities of varying literary traditions. Changes in literary type awareness is usually followed not only by literary types themselves, but also an adjustment in the matrix of relationships among literary types. In analysing the unique literary qualities and formats of modern Chinese literature, the concept of genre comes, more than any other concepts, closer to the gist of the pieces.
