I saw an older woman stumble and fall into the street near Broadway as I was running for the bus. Within seconds, four strangers were at her side, assisting and comforting her. A man in a business suit put his briefcase under her head as she lay on the sidewalk. A tattooed bicycle messenger handed her a bottle of water. Neither too busy nor too blase to just walk on by, these New Yorkers exhibited some of the best in human nature.
