Objective To analyze microelement variations of Hangzhou pregnant women during different gestation periods, and provide clinical guidance on supplementing microelements for pregnant women. Methods According to gestation periods, 813 pregnant women were divided into early pregnancy group ( 〈 12 weeks), midterm pregnancy group (12 weeks -28 weeks) and late pregnancy group ( 〉 28 weeks) ; 83 healthy non -pregnant women were selected as a control group for comparison ; atomic absorption spectroscopy was adopted to measure the concentration levels of iron, zinc, calcium, magnesium, cuprum and plum- bum of whole blood. Results The levels of cuprum, iron and magnesium of whole blood showed a significant decline (P 〈 0.05) during early and midterm pregnancy, and a significant rise (P 〈0.01 ) during late pregnancy. During midterm and late pregnancy the level of calcium in whole blood was significantly lower than that of the control group ( P 〈 0.01 ). During early and midterm pregnancy the level of zinc in whole blood was significantly lower than that of the control group ( P 〈 0.01 ). During all pregnancy the level of plumbum in whole blood was significantly lower than that of the control group (P 〈 0.01 ). Conclu- sion There are variations in the levels of microelements during different gestations of Hangzhou pregnant women, who therefore should have their microelements detected on a regular basis, and should supple microelements according to gestational weeks, so as to meet the maternal and fetal demands and ensure a healthy pregnancy.
