Charles Dickens is also acclaimed as the most prominent realistic novelist in the 19th century. His significant contribution to the history of English literature is to create various distinguished characters with distinctive eccentricities and innumerous absurd spatial scenes in his works. Admittedly, these striking characters and grotesque spaces in the novels which, despite some scholars criticized lacking reality, are not only highly vivid and moving, but also filled with the exceeding power of narrative. Even now, they still keep fresh and can stir the strong emotions in the readers" minds. Dickens actually presents a real British life of different social classes in the Victorian era through his unique narrative techniques of humor. Therefore, his conscious employment of this characteristic humorous technique of narrative becomes the basic feature and is also the main source of the sensational immortality in his works. Based on the theory of western aesthetics and the theory of narrative as well as Incongruity-Resolution Theory, this research is intent to explore the basic artistic features of Charles Dickens' s remarkable narrative techniques of humor in his novels.
