朝鲜朝燕行使臣李窅既敬佩顺治帝的勇武精神与豪俊气象,又恐惧其残暴与气狭性暴的性格。在他笔下,顺治被十分细腻地刻画成为"暴狞"、"荒淫自恣"的清帝形象,同时也描绘出其具有"力学中华"、"慕效华制"、"专厌胡俗"清帝形象的一面。如上的顺治形象,既是一种客观描述的结果,也是一种有意"文化误读"的产物。
Li Yao, the Choson envoy to Yenching, describes the image of Qing Emperor Shunzhi in his travel notes The Journey to Yenching. In his writing, Shunzhi is depicted subtly as a "fury" and "licentious" Qing Emperor; yet he is also described as a Qing Em- peror of "trying to learn from China" and "admiring and imitating Chinese system" as well as "particularly hating Manchu's customs". This shows that, on one hand, Li Yao ad- mires Emperor Shunzhi's courage and chivalrousness, and on the other hand, he fears Em- peror Shunzhi's tyrannical, narrow-minded and irascible character. Therefore, the image of Emperor Shunzhi in Li Yao's travel notes is not only the consequence of objective descrip- tion but also the result of the intended cultural misunderstanding.
