Exploring the Dockworkers in Chongqing during the Period of the Republic of China

重庆地处长江与嘉陵江交汇处,自近代重庆开埠以来,重庆码头搬运业逐渐兴起,成为重庆近代社会经济发展中一个不可或缺的行业。受政治、经济以及地理条件的影响,重庆地区的码头搬运业在民国时期有了显著的发展。随着码头搬运业的发展,出现了新的社会群体——码头工人,这一新兴城市底层群体在近代重庆城市发展中扮演着重要的角色。以码头工作的苦力为切入点,揭示这一群体在民国时期的生活写照,勾勒出重庆城市底层群体的全貌。

Chongqing is located at the mouth where the Yangtze river and Jialing river meet,since the opening of port of Chongqing,Chongqing port porterage quietly became an emerging industry,then an indispensable industry in the modern social and economic development of Chongqing,which is influenced by political,economic and geographical conditions. The industry made significant development in Chongqing during the period of the republic of China. With the development of the porterage industry,there appears the dockers,which is a new social group and plays an important role in the city＇s development. Starting from the point of the coolie,the passage tries to reveal the workers＇ life in the period of the republic of China was revealed. The underlying group in Chongqing city was outlined.
