摘要
莎士比亚的著名剧作《威尼斯商人》中的夏洛克和中国著名作家吴敬梓的著名讽刺小说《儒林外史》中的严监生历来都是各国评论家争议不断的角色,他们大多被冠以"吝啬鬼"称号。文章拟从夏洛克与严监生所处的政治,经济背景入手,重新分析夏洛克、严监生的"吝啬"形象,挖掘他们不为人所知的"真善美"形象,试图为文学史上的这"吝啬"二人翻案。
Shylock in Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice and Yan Jiansheng in Wu Jingzi's The Scholars have always been the most controversial characters all over the world, and most often they are dubbed as "misers". From the perspectives of politics and economy, this paper reevaluates the "stingy"cgaracters of Shylock and Yan Jiansheng, discover "the good"in them, and seeks to reverse the two characters in the literary history.
