In early modern England, widows were regarded as fickle and lewd lovers. However,we find this stereotype does not conform to the history. This phenomenon Originated from male's anxiety.Men feared for women's sex, their children, their property and their death. They also worried about social orders. So,they constructed this stereotype in order to control widows. They tried to use public opinion to replace died husbands. In doing so,they restrain widows and maintained male's authority.
