More active strategies of prevention and treatment are the keys to improving the prognosis for gastric cancer patients with metastasis or recurrence. Based on a lot of clinical experience, surgeons should focus on full understanding of the bio-pathological behavior of tumor metastasis and recurrence and actively promoting the molecular pathological classification in the clinical diagnosis. Surgeons should pay more attention to preventive treatment for tumor metastasis and recurrence, especially to the perioperative comprehensive treatment. The normative and radical principle for the first radical surgery should be emphasized to eliminate iatrogenic tumor recurrence as far as possible.
