论赛珍珠《水浒传》翻译的主体性与主体间性

The Subjectivity and Inter-subjectivity in Pearl S. Buck's Translating Shui Hu Chuan

翻译研究的"文化转向"以来,语言层面外的影响翻译活动的诸多因素受到翻译研究者越来越多的关注,翻译研究的主体也由一元走向多元。现代翻译理论改变了传统语言学翻译理论对译者主体性的忽视,强调译者在翻译过程中的能动作用。而翻译活动的主体间性能避免译者主体性发挥超过其合理的尺度。赛译《水浒传》在原著版本选择和具体的翻译操作上彰显了译者主体性,同时在翻译过程中也体现了与作者和出版商的对话与妥协,通过主体间的相互作用过程,这部中国古典名著首次被成功传播到海外。

Since the ＂ cultural turn＂ of translation studies, the non -linguistic factors in translation studies have been receiving more and more concern from scholars, and the number of subjects in trans- lation studies has grown from singular to plural. In a departure from traditional linguistic translation the- ories＇neglect of the translator~ subjectivity, modem translation theories put emphasis on the initiative of the translator while the inter - subjectivity in translating practices can prevent the translatorg subjectivity from going too far. The process of translating Shui Hu Chuan shows not only the translator~ subjectivity in choosing a specific version of the novel and the actual translating methods but also the dialogue and compromise between the translator and the author and the publisher. Through the interaction among the subjects, the classic Chinese masterpiece was disseminated to other countries successfully for the first time.
