The Hunan University has devised a core-shell structuredzeolite （HSM-5@silicalite-1）, which can beused as the methylation agent for manufacturingPX through reaction of bromomethane with toluene（CN103708496A,2014-04-09）. Taking into account thedemerits related with the structure of currently used catalysts,the research team has designed the composite catalysthaving active zeolite in the core side and inert zeolite in the shellside in order to regulate and modify the acidity on the zeolitecatalyst surface and increase its para-xylene selectivity.
