The general theme of the Universal Exhibition in Milan, which was inaugurated on 1st May 2015, is "Feeding the Planet. Energy for Life", The guidelines set out by Milan Expo 2015 for countries advice that the pavilions which take part in the event should highlight the importance of interpreting this leitmotiv by their entire projects, from architecture to interior settings and the food & beverage services offered. It therefore strike one to look at the various architectures in Expo 2015 and try to identify the thematic ideas behind them, to observe the technologies and materials chosen, while thinking how they can be seen as ingredients which have been carefully selected and combined, to shape such a collection of unique architectural structures in those pavilions. Walking down the Decumano in Expo 2015 and observing the finished architectures is, from this point of view, rather like sampling food, and the expo site is a great place for "architectonic tasting session", where visitors can savor a series of "dishes" placed before them, experience the "dishes" and then try to deconstruct them by analyzing and extrapolating the materials, technological choices and their characteristics.This analysis starts from the senses and emotions and moves further to the merits of the compositional and constructional design, emerges a wide-ranging, variegated collection of "recipes" which constitute the cook book of the Milan Universal Exhibition.
