米兰世博会就像一个富于挑战性的实验室一般,试图以都市公共空间的角度出发,重新定义世博会这种国际盛事。像许多其他大城市一样,米兰从19世纪下半叶开始通过不断创办国际活动来确保自己在现代西方社会中的政治和经济地位。与此同时,一些特别重大的活动也为米兰改变城市自身环境提供了绝佳机会。本届米兰世博会也不例外,一方面,它是当代变化无常的大都市中的新生部分;同时,它也是探索可持续临时建筑的设计和科技试验场。打破常规的整体规划及其对于每个空间可持续性和可达性的要求使本届世博会能有机会重新定义未来数十年的国际活动操办模式。

The new World Exhibition which held in Milan could be considered a challenging laboratory to redefine the idea of an international event as an alternative form of urban and public space. As many other major cities, Milan created a set of international events to affirm its economic and political role in modern, western world since the second half of the XlX century. At the same time the main exhibition has been considered as good chances to transform part of the changing urban environment. Milan Expo could also be seen as a new fragment of the contemporary, changing metropolis and, at the same time, as a design and technical lab for sustainable, temporary architecture. An alternative master plan of the site and the necessity to design every built space as a fully sustainable and accessible environment could determine an important inversion in the definition of world events for the next decades.
