This article will explain the innovative concept of cluster pavilions for the Milan Expo 2015, focusing the attention on the design process and detailing the Rice Cluster Pavilion as a collaboration between Tongji University and Politecnico di Milano. Milan Expo 2015 introduces a significant innovation to the type of exhibition spaces and their placement. This solution will allow countries from different regions and continents to collaborate together, overcoming the traditional geographical divisions of the exhibition areas of Expos and therefore enhancing the universal character of Milan Expo 2015. This happens in the cluster pavilions. In particular, the Rice Cluster Pavilion appears like an out of scale rice field where the soil texture are recognizable. The colors, the fragrances and the shadows change with the rice's growing and they characterize the flowing of time between the pavilions. Meanwhile, the cluster hides another "informative landscape" made by elements and stimulates the visitors' curiosity to explore themselves.
