The MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) have the characteristics of large-scale, open, online, and sharing, and triggered a revolution in education. Western countries have tried to apply MOOCs for medical education in recent years. In 2014, China established an alliance of MOOCs for Chinese medical students, and forums for Chinese MOOCs have emerged. The courses are mainly for basic medical sciences. The development of MOOCs needs to adhere to the trinity of government, enterprises and education institutes. Education institutes (universities, colleges) provide the curriculum planning and speciifc content designing. Enterprises make investigation and operation of MOOCs, which are under the supervision of the government or education authorities. The establishment of alliance of MOOCs can effectively improve the quality of courses. At present, MOOCs are most iftted for basic and continuing medical education. The content of MOOCs upgrades quickly, and rises a challenge of software, network, mobile terminal, teaching, production and maintenance. The feedbacks to quality evaluation for MOOCs are in need to standardize. MOOCs will become an important means of medical education in China.
