Rational Reflections on Universities'Social Service Function

阐清大学社会服务之根本意涵,是大学更好地服务社会和提高大学管理科学化水平的需要。大学天生是一个服务机构,服务社会是大学之天然使命,大学也只能通过服务社会才能获得存在的合法性基础;大学通过多种方式来服务社会,并服务于社会发展的诸多领域,可以说大学的社会服务能力是无限的,但这并不意味着大学时刻去满足社会的"欲望",大学在服务社会的同时,必须坚守作为一个教育和学术机构的价值立场。

Clarifying the fundamental implication of the social function of universities is the nece- ssity for universities to improve their services to society and raise their management level. Universities are born as a service agency, and serving society is their mission that they can only gain their legitima- cy for their existence by fulfilling this function. They serve society by different means and in every field of social development. As a result, their service capacity is infinite. However this doesn＇t mean that universities should cater to the lust of society, because universities have and must adhere to their own educational and academic values while they are serving society.
