During the Soviet period, a large number of Russians emigrated to Uzbekistan and other former Soviet republics as the U. S. S. R. expands and enjoyed the dominant ethnicity status in the country of residence, leading a comfortable life with superior position. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, Russians scattered around former Soviet republics apart from Russia, like Uzbekistan, and suffered from the great changes in their situation. Namely, they became local ethnic minorities overnight from a dominant ethnic ethnicity with superior position, which not only resulted in the decline of status, but also brought about numerous problems and difficulties in life. This article elaborates on the changes of the Russians in Uzbekistan from the past to the present and explores the deeper reasons with an analysis on the major problems that the Russians in Uzbekistan face in the future.
